What are important questions that I need to ask the family when I interview with them?
Make sure that you ask the family questions about how their home is run. Find out what tasks you will need to do in the house and when they will need you to work. Find out what time of the day you will be able to go to school. Also ask how near they are to transport links, i.e. trains, buses and underground. Find out what rules they have in the house, so that you will know what they expect of you. Find out if you will have your own room and, ask how much you will be paid. But, again, most importantly, make sure that you know exactly what the family will expect of you!
What is the notice period my host family must give me should they no longer require my services?
There is no legally stipulated notice period, we advise host families to give a minimum of 1 week notice. This will give you time to make alternative living and working arrangements. In these circumstances we will be happy to assist you in finding a new family.
